Three die, six injured in Ogun multiple crashes

No fewer than three female adults lost their lives to multiple road crashes that occurred on the Ijebu-Ode Road in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State just as six others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The Public Education Officer of the Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday.

The accidents which occurred separately on the same route around 9am and 12pm on Wednesday involved 17 persons with three deaths recorded, six injured and eight persons escaping unhurt.

According to Okpe, the first accident occurred around the J4 Junction along the Ijebu-Ode Road and it involved a collision between a Chevrolet car and a Bajaj motorcycle. The effect of the collision was said to have led to the death of one of the victims while one other victim was injured.

She said, “The first crash occurred at about 0855hrs around the J4 Junction involving two vehicles with registration number AGL254HF CHEVROLET and the second vehicle with no registration number on it, a Boxer Bajaj motorcycle.

“A total of four persons were involved (three male adults and one female adult). One person was injured and one female adult was killed while two persons escaped unhurt.”

In the same vein, another accident, which involved 13 persons, occurred some few metres away from the point of the first crash leading to the death of two female adults while five others were injured.

The second crash occurred at about 1200hrs a few metres after J4. Thirteen persons were involved in the crash which comprised of six male adults, five female adults and two male children. Five persons were injured and six persons unhurt while two female adults were recorded dead from the crash.

“The accidents were two, a Toyota Sienna with registration numbers LSD315FU and a Honda Accord with registration number ENU04GO.”

Okpe noted that the deceased bodies had been deposited at the Ore General Hospital morgue while the injured victims were taken to Hope Clinic along the J4 Junction for medical attention.

While blaming excessive speed for the accidents, she however noted that the Ogun Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, urged motorists to drive with caution and obey traffic rules.

“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed. The injured victims were taken to the Hope Clinic J4 for medical attention and the corpses deposited at the Ore General Hospital morgue.

The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun, CC Anthony Uga, warned motorists on the dangers associated with speed and that it is better to be late and arrive safely than to be the late. He also advised motorists to drive cautiously and obey traffic rules,” Okpe concluded.
