Three House of Representatives Members Leave PDP for APC

On Wednesday, three members of the House of Representatives who were originally elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner officially switched allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers involved are Hon. Ajilesoro Taofeek Abimbola and Hon. Omirin Olusanya from Osun State, alongside Hon. Marcus Onobu from Edo State.
Their formal declarations of defection were submitted via individual letters, which were read aloud by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during the resumed plenary session.
In their letters, the defectors pointed to ongoing internal conflicts, persistent factional disputes within the PDP, and a desire to support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in revitalizing the nation’s economy as key motivations for their switch.
Present at the House during the announcement was Senator Suraj Ajibola, the APC national secretary from Osun State, along with other party officials, to officially receive the lawmakers into the APC fold.
In response, the House minority leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, urged Speaker Tajudeen to uphold constitutional requirements by declaring the seats of the defecting members vacant.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen acknowledged the minority leader’s request but only stated that the point of order had been noted, without further action.
