Tinubu Getting Wrong Advice, APC in Trouble – Garba

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Adamu Garba, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has voiced concern over the current leadership climate surrounding President Bola Tinubu, warning that sycophants within his inner circle are feeding him a distorted version of reality.

Speaking on Politics Today, a political affairs program aired on Channels Television, Garba argued that those closest to the president are painting an overly optimistic picture of the country and the party, despite growing discontent.

Garba pointed to the recent resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as APC’s national chairman, describing it as a moment of vulnerability for the party. According to him, this internal shake-up has opened the door for opposition forces, particularly a coalition backed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to capitalize on APC’s instability.

He likened the opposition’s approach to that of “vultures circling a wounded animal,” eager to exploit the party’s leadership void and internal struggles.

“The opposition is waiting for us to stumble, and that’s why we must face the truth,” Garba said. “We need a party leader who listens to honest feedback, not just praise-singers. Unfortunately, I fear the president is surrounded by individuals who keep insisting all is well, when that’s clearly not the case.”

Garba also addressed the dwindling influence of the APC in northern Nigeria, noting that the party’s strength has weakened significantly since former President Muhammadu Buhari left office in 2023.

“There’s naturally going to be some friction after a leader like Buhari exits the scene,” he said. “In the 2023 elections, the APC only managed to secure 5.5 million votes in the north—down from the 12 million we used to count on. That tells you something has changed.”

Despite the reduced support, Garba acknowledged that APC managed to retain power through strategic organization and established political structures. However, he emphasized the urgency of recalibrating those strategies in a post-Buhari era.

“What we need now is a total rethink—a fresh game plan that acknowledges the present reality, not one built on flattery and false assurances,” he concluded.
