A violent attack by suspected bandits has claimed the lives of five individuals and left three others injured during a church meeting in Kampani village, located in the Maro district of Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
According to sources within the Kaduna State Police Command, the incident took place around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, when gunmen stormed a gathering at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA). Worshippers were reportedly holding a meeting when the assailants opened fire.
It wasn’t until around 9:20 p.m. that security operatives were alerted by a concerned citizen. A swift response was initiated, with a joint team of police officers and other security personnel dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team confirmed that five church members had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The deceased have been identified as Victor Haruna, Dogara Jatau, Luka Yari, Jesse Dalami, and Bawu John. They were taken to a medical facility where they were pronounced dead.
Three others—Samuel Aliyu, Philip Dominic, and Jacob Hussaini—were seriously injured and are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
Security forces have launched an investigation and are working with other agencies to track down those responsible for the attack.
