Tragic Wedding: Cameroonian Bride Dies While Dancing at Reception

Douala: A joyous wedding celebration turned into a nightmare when the bride collapsed and tragically passed away on her wedding day.

The heartbreaking incident took place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Douala. The bride, identified as Sorelle Emmanuella Kamga, was dancing at her wedding reception when she suddenly collapsed. Despite efforts to revive her, medical personnel later declared her dead.

The news of her sudden death spread quickly, particularly after a video showing Sorelle dancing and being showered with money by her husband and bridesmaids went viral on social media the following day, October 27. In the footage, she can be seen joyfully singing with her guests before the tragic event unfolded.

A photographer who was present at the celebration recalled that Sorelle had chosen the Ivorian song Mogo Fariman by Roseline Layo as part of her performance. The song was meant to signal the start of the wedding cake cutting, which, sadly, never took place due to the sudden tragedy.

The reception, held at Johannesburg Hotel, was filled with disbelief as guests watched in horror. The photographer recounted that, just before she collapsed, Sorelle had called her husband to join her on stage, where he began spraying money on her. The third note thrown by her husband was when she fell, leaving the room in shock and confusion.

Immediately, attempts were made to assist her, and she was rushed to Adlucem Hospital before being transferred to Douala General Hospital. Unfortunately, it was at the general hospital that she was officially pronounced dead.

The mood at the reception shifted dramatically from celebration to mourning. Some guests were so shocked by the news that three of them reportedly collapsed in distress.

Family members revealed that just hours before the tragedy, Sorelle was actively involved in coordinating the final details of her wedding. Her passing has left everyone in disbelief, especially considering how vibrant and happy she had been earlier in the day.

Sorelle and her husband, Émile, had been together for seven years and shared three children. Their wedding, which had originally been planned for 2020, had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, they rescheduled the ceremony, with the dowry paid on Friday and the civil wedding taking place on Saturday. Tragically, the reception ended with the untimely death of the bride.

A relative shared the family’s grief, saying, “My cousin leaves behind a husband and three beautiful daughters, having only worn her wedding ring for a few hours. We never thought something like this could happen, especially not on a day so full of joy. Rest in peace, Sorelle.”

At the time of reporting, the exact cause of death remained unclear. The deceased’s body was taken to the Douala General Hospital Mortuary, where funeral arrangements are underway.
