Troops Arrest Suspected Militia Member, Seize Weapons in Plateau State

Security forces under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a have apprehended a suspected militia operative and recovered a cache of weapons during a patrol in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Acting on actionable intelligence, troops arrested the suspect—identified as 40-year-old Stephen Gyang—on the evening of July 6, 2025, around 9:12 p.m., along the Kafi Abu–Rakwok route.
According to sources familiar with the operation, the suspect was allegedly lying in wait to ambush unsuspecting travelers when he was intercepted. A search led to the discovery of a locally-made AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition in his possession.
Gyang, a native of Kafi Abu in Barkin Ladi, is currently being held by the military for further questioning and appropriate follow-up action.
