Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) recorded a notable success on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, following the arrest of two armed suspects during a coordinated security sweep across key access points in Benue State.

The arrests were made during a routine patrol targeting illegal checkpoints and criminal activity along transit routes in and around Makurdi, the state capital. The suspects—identified as Mr. Felix Agbako, 42, a farmer from Abiam village in Gwer East Local Government Area, and Mr. Tsekaa Kyaan, 42, a driver from Tse-Adam village in Makurdi LGA—were intercepted while traveling in a blue Toyota Camry with Lagos registration number FST 733 GL.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a magazine loaded with 7.62mm special ammunition, all concealed within the car. Authorities say the weapons were likely intended for criminal use, and investigations are ongoing to determine the scope of the suspects’ activities.

The operation was carried out under the direction of Captain Miri-Dashe of the 401 Special Forces Brigade, with assistance from Captain Iyamba. Personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Keystone operatives also took part in the mission.

Both suspects have been taken into custody and are undergoing preliminary interrogation. The recovered weapons have been secured as evidence pending further investigation and potential prosecution.

Responding to the development, Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Kolo Gara, praised the professionalism and swift coordination of the joint security team. He reaffirmed the operation’s mandate to deter criminal activity and ensure that armed elements do not gain ground in Benue or surrounding areas.

“This interception sends a clear message to those who threaten peace and stability in our communities: there is no safe passage for criminality,” Major General Gara said.

He also acknowledged the continued strategic support from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, whose guidance and provision of operational resources have strengthened the mission’s reach and impact.

As Operation Whirl Stroke intensifies its efforts, security officials urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
