Truck Kills Revenue Collector on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; Driver Flees
The Lagos State Police Command has launched a search for a truck driver who allegedly ran over a revenue collector along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the victim’s death.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, when the driver and his conductor fled the scene after the fatal accident. According to Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident involved a containerized truck (FST 887 XD) near New Garage, inbound Lagos.
Bakare-Oki confirmed that the revenue collector was struck and killed while attempting to collect dues from the truck driver, who was crossing the busy expressway. LASTMA personnel quickly responded to the scene, managing the aftermath and helping to clear the area.
“The victim was immediately pronounced dead at the scene,” said Bakare-Oki. “His remains were handed over to officers from the Adigboluje Police Division, who are working with the family to complete the necessary procedures.”
The victim’s wife, upon hearing the news, rushed to the site of the accident. Meanwhile, the driver, shaken by the incident, fled to avoid facing the consequences.
Bakare-Oki also noted that traffic officers worked swiftly to clear the truck, which had caused significant congestion. The vehicle was later impounded and handed over to the police for further investigation.
In a statement, the General Manager expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and called on transport unions to take swift action against the driver involved in the fatal incident.
