Trump’s Religious Liberty Adviser Sameerah Munshi Resigns, Cites Policy Disputes and Civilian Casualties

Trump’s Religious Liberty Adviser Sameerah Munshi Resigns, Cites Policy Disputes and Civilian Casualties.

Sameerah Munshi has stepped down from her role as an adviser to the White House Religious Liberty Commission, citing disagreements with the administration’s policies and what she described as “injustice and atrocities” linked to recent political decisions.

Munshi announced her resignation in a lengthy statement shared on the social media platform X, where she said she could no longer remain part of an administration whose actions she believes contradict the principles of religious freedom and constitutional governance.

Her departure comes amid controversy surrounding the reported removal of Carrie Prejean Boller, whom Munshi claimed was dismissed because of her outspoken views regarding Palestine and broader Middle East policy debates.

In the statement, Munshi alleged that the decision to remove Boller represented an infringement on religious expression, arguing that individuals should not face professional consequences for views shaped by their faith.

According to coverage referenced by The Punch, Munshi also criticised the U.S. government’s recent military actions involving Iran, claiming the operations lacked clear constitutional or congressional approval.

She further expressed concern about the treatment of Muslim communities within political discourse, stating that she initially accepted the appointment with the aim of representing underrepresented voices, including American Muslims, within discussions about religious liberty.

Munshi wrote that members of the commission had, at times, shown hostility toward her faith and community, but she remained in the role in hopes of advocating for broader religious freedom protections.

Reports referenced by The Guardian Nigeria indicate that Munshi’s statement also addressed the wider geopolitical context, including the ongoing conflict involving Israel, Palestine, and tensions with Iran.

In her message, Munshi argued that the United States should remain focused on safeguarding the constitutional rights of its citizens while avoiding policies that could escalate international conflicts.

She also stressed that her resignation was not the result of intimidation or external pressure but rather a personal decision after witnessing what she described as actions inconsistent with her moral and religious convictions.

“I am resigning because I have seen firsthand the injustice perpetrated by members of this commission,” she wrote, adding that she could no longer associate herself with the administration’s decisions.

According to reports referenced by The Nation, the resignation is likely to intensify debates surrounding religious freedom, U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, and internal divisions within political advisory bodies linked to the administration of Donald Trump.

At the time of filing this report, officials from the White House Religious Liberty Commission had not issued an official response to Munshi’s claims.

Observers say the development highlights growing tensions within U.S. political circles over issues related to religious expression, foreign policy, and the role of advisory bodies in shaping national decision-making.
