Countries Urge Citizens to Leave Lebanon Amid War Fears

Several countries are urging their citizens to leave Lebanon due to escalating tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, raising concerns of a potential war.

Germany and the Netherlands have recently joined Canada, North Macedonia, and Kuwait in advising their nationals to depart Lebanon. The German government updated its travel advisory, stating, “German citizens are urgently urged to leave Lebanon. The current heightened tensions in the border area with Israel could escalate further at any time.”
The German Foreign Ministry reiterated this warning on X, emphasizing the tense situation at the Israel-Lebanon border. This advisory follows a visit by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to Lebanon, where she cautioned that any miscalculation could lead to a full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Netherlands has also issued a warning for its citizens to leave Lebanon while commercial flights are still available, citing the unpredictable and unsafe conditions in the country.
Earlier, Canada, North Macedonia, and Kuwait had already advised their citizens to leave Lebanon due to the deteriorating security situation. Other countries have similarly updated their travel advisories, discouraging all travel to Lebanon and urging residents to leave.
The Swiss Embassy in Lebanon and Syria has declared travel to Lebanon as generally inadvisable, warning that the security situation could worsen at any moment.
Additionally, the US Embassy in Beirut has advised American citizens to avoid travel to the Lebanon-Israel border area, the Lebanon-Syria border area, and refugee settlements. The embassy reiterated its warning, urging Americans to reconsider any plans to travel to Lebanon.
These advisories reflect the growing international concern over the stability and safety of Lebanon amidst increasing regional tensions.
