Wanted Nigerian Soldier Declares President Tinubu ‘Wanted,’ Vows to Lead March on Aso Rock
A Nigerian soldier recently declared wanted by the military has released a statement in which he, in turn, declares President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “wanted,” while vowing to lead what he describes as a revolutionary movement toward Aso Rock, the seat of the Nigerian presidency.
The soldier, whose identity has circulated across social media platforms but remains unconfirmed by official sources, claims he is inspired by the rise of Captain Ibrahim Traoré in Burkina Faso, who came to power following a military takeover in 2022. In his video message, the Nigerian serviceman accused the current administration of failing the country and pledged to rally support from both civilians and members of the armed forces.
“This is not a threat; it is a call to action,” he said. “What happened in Burkina Faso is not unique to them. Nigerians deserve better, and I am ready to lead that charge.”
The Nigerian Army has yet to issue a detailed response beyond confirming the soldier’s wanted status, citing violations of military conduct and incitement. Security agencies are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, given the sensitivities surrounding military dissent and political instability in the region.
Observers have noted the growing frustration among segments of the Nigerian population, particularly amid economic hardship, rising insecurity, and perceived government inaction. However, calls for extra-constitutional changes in power remain a red line for the Nigerian state, which has consistently opposed any form of military interference in democratic governance.
As of the time of writing, no official charges have been made public, and the whereabouts of the soldier remain unknown. Analysts warn that while such rhetoric may resonate with some, it also risks fueling unrest in a country still grappling with internal security challenges.
