Warri, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna Refineries Set to Operate; See Month Operation will start

Senator Jide Ipinsagba, VC

The Downstream Committee of the Nigerian Senate has announced that the country’s three government-owned refineries will be fully operational by January 2025.

Senator Jide Ipinsagba, Vice Chairman of the Committee and representative of Ondo North Senatorial District, confirmed that the retrofitting of the Kaduna, Warri, and Port Harcourt refineries is nearing completion.

Ipinsagba also mentioned that the Dangote refinery in Lagos State will soon start refining Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. The committee expressed satisfaction with the progress made during their oversight assessment of the refineries.

He stated that after meeting domestic fuel needs, the country would export refined petroleum products.

“Efforts are in high gear to ensure all the refineries are operational by the end of this year. Our oversight inspections showed promising progress. The Port Harcourt refinery is about 90 to 95 percent optimized, Warri is approximately 80 percent complete, and Kaduna is nearly 70 percent finished.

“The Dangote refinery is ready to begin operations soon. With these developments, we will meet internal fuel demands and have the capacity to export our refined oil,” Ipinsagba said.
