Why Jesus and the Apostles Did Not Collect Tithes – Pastor Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, recently discussed why Jesus Christ did not collect tithes during His time on earth. His remarks came during the October Holy Ghost Service at Redemption City, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Adeboye’s comments were in response to an unnamed RCCG pastor who preached against tithing by arguing that Jesus never collected it. The pastor expressed disappointment, noting that this perspective was not new and had been echoed by others.
He stated, “One of my pastors went online and delivered a sermon on why people shouldn’t pay tithes. I watched it hoping to gain insight. He claimed we shouldn’t tithe because Jesus didn’t, but I felt he missed an important point—Jesus was not a parish pastor; He was a global evangelist.”
Adeboye explained that Jesus’ ministry was supported financially by certain women, as mentioned in Luke 8:1-3, which lists Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna among those who contributed.
He also clarified that the apostles did not collect tithes for similar reasons, as they too were not parish pastors.
In closing, Adeboye cautioned against the pitfalls of gathering women solely for financial support, referencing a colleague who had such a group, warning that it could lead to moral complications.
