Why Sokoto State Government Provides 20 Vehicles and 710 Motorcycles to Community Guard Corps

In a significant move to address the escalating security concerns in Sokoto State, the government has delivered 20 Hilux vans and 710 motorcycles to the newly-formed Community Guard Corps. This initiative is part of the state’s strategy to enhance local security efforts.

On Thursday, Col. Abdul Usman (rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, handed over the vehicles to the Commanders of the Community Guard Corps in the 13 local government areas most affected by banditry. The event took place at the corps’ state headquarters.

Represented by Almustafa Sayudi, Director of the Administration Department of Security Matters, Col. Usman emphasized that these resources are intended to enable the corps to effectively cover all areas of their communities and combat threats from bandits. He stressed the importance of using the vehicles and motorcycles solely for official purposes, given the substantial investment involved.

“These assets are provided for your operational needs, not for personal use. It is crucial that they are maintained and utilized properly,” Col. Usman stated.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining state security and urged the Community Guard Corps to complement existing security forces in protecting rural areas.

Additionally, Sokoto State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters, Ibrahim Dadi Adare, announced that special funds have been allocated for the upkeep of the new vehicles.
