Youth Minister Says Tinubu’s Reforms Will Encourage Nigerians Abroad to Return Home

Ayodele Olawande, Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, has expressed confidence that the reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu will soon make the country appealing enough to attract Nigerians living overseas back to their homeland.
Olawande shared these remarks with reporters during the recent coronation anniversary celebrations of Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, the Deji of Akure.
He emphasized that the federal government is intentionally working to reconnect young Nigerians with governance and restore their faith in the nation’s prospects.
“The president’s initiatives are focused on building a better future. Very soon, I believe many Nigerians will prefer to live in Nigeria rather than abroad because stability is being restored,” the minister stated.
Highlighting the historical disconnect between Nigerian youth and leadership, Olawande noted that the government is closing this gap through targeted policies and youth-oriented programs.
“For a long time, youths have felt distant from the government. Now, we are integrating all necessary elements—skills development, education, partnerships—to bring them fully into the national framework,” he explained.
He also outlined the government’s vision of fostering a workforce where every Nigerian acquires at least two employable skills, enhancing productivity and economic adaptability.
“Our goal is to ensure that whether a young person is in school or not, they possess skills that make them employable or enable them to create employment,” Olawande added.
The minister further recounted his recent diplomatic trip to the United Arab Emirates, where he engaged in talks on youth development and strengthening international cooperation.
He described the visit as historic, signaling increasing global confidence in Nigeria’s youth development agenda.
At the coronation event, Olawande was honored by the Deji of Akure with a youth leadership service award, recognizing his impactful efforts in empowering young people and advancing national growth.
