123 Suspected Criminals Paraded by Enugu Police

The Enugu State Police Command showcased a group of 123 individuals suspected of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities during a press briefing yesterday. These arrests were made between July and August.
Police Commissioner Kanayo Uzuegbu reported that various incriminating items were seized during these operations. Many of the suspects have been charged and are now held at Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centres. He also revealed that 19 victims who had been kidnapped were rescued. The police recovered 15 AK-47 and assault rifles, 25 pump-action shotguns, 35 rounds of ammunition, 710 live rounds of different calibers, 187 live cartridges, 17 vehicles, and 11 tricycles during this period.
The Commissioner also addressed rumors about a kidnapping incident near the Enugu State College of Health Technology in Oji-River. He clarified that the four individuals allegedly kidnapped on August 14, 2024, three of whom were not students of the college, had been rescued and reunited with their families. The suspects involved are currently being interrogated, and the individual spreading false information about the incident has been located and has apologized for the misleading claims.
Additionally, the CP reported that an attempted attack by IPOB/ESN secessionist militants on police operatives at 4-Corner along the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway on August 18, 2024, was successfully thwarted. The militants, disguised in security uniforms and driving a stolen Lexus 350 Jeep, fired upon the patrol team. The police responded, disabling the vehicle and forcing the attackers to flee in a stolen Toyota Camry, sustaining various injuries from gunfire.
