₦1bn Scandal: Kaduna Govt Dares El-Rufai — “Provide Proof or Prepare for Legal Battle”

The political atmosphere in Kaduna State has once again been jolted by controversy as the state government has issued a stern ultimatum to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai over his recent allegations involving a purported ₦1 billion financial scandal. The government, clearly displeased with the claims, has challenged the former governor to present concrete evidence or be ready to defend himself in court.

The tension began after El-Rufai reportedly made statements suggesting significant financial misconduct within the current administration. According to government officials, the former governor accused the state of mismanaging or diverting ₦1 billion, an allegation they describe as “baseless, reckless, and potentially defamatory.”

In a strong-worded statement, the Kaduna State government dismissed the claims as politically motivated, emphasizing that no such transaction or misappropriation exists. Government spokespersons stressed that if El-Rufai believes his allegations to be true, he must come forward with verifiable documentation. Failure to do so, they warned, would leave the administration with no choice but to pursue legal redress.

“Public office is a place of accountability, not a ground for unfounded accusations,” the statement read. “Anyone who makes such serious claims must either provide evidence to substantiate them or be ready to face the consequences of spreading misinformation.”

Political analysts note that the standoff underscores deepening tensions between the current administration and its predecessor, particularly as debates over governance, transparency, and legacy continue to shape public discourse in the state. They argue that such disputes, if not managed carefully, may further polarize political actors and distract from pressing developmental issues.

Meanwhile, supporters of both camps have taken to social media, trading arguments and demanding clarity. While El-Rufai’s loyalists insist that his comments must be considered seriously, critics argue that accusations without proof only erode public trust and destabilize governance.

As Kaduna residents await further developments, the government maintains that it is committed to transparency and insists it will not tolerate what it views as attempts to smear its image without factual basis. The coming days may determine whether this clash ends in a courtroom showdown or a public clarification.

For now, the message from the state government is unmistakable: produce evidence or face the law.
