2027 Coalition: PDP Issues Warning to Defectors, Promises Swift Action

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a firm warning to members considering defection, pledging to take strong measures against those who seek to weaken the party from within.

Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, the party’s Acting National Chairman, made this announcement during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, following the recent meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Speaking alongside fellow committee members, Damagum highlighted the PDP’s unity and determination as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. He reassured supporters that despite internal disagreements, the party remains solid and urged loyalty among members.

“We are drawing a clear boundary for anyone who attempts to tarnish the PDP’s reputation. We are closely monitoring such actions and will respond appropriately when the time comes,” Damagum declared.

He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to destabilize the PDP through intimidation and inducements. He maintained that the outcome of the 2027 elections will be decided by Nigerians, not by the ruling party’s manipulations.

“To the APC, my message is clear: your efforts to intimidate or poach our members will not determine the elections; the Nigerian people will make that decision,” he stated.

Damagum criticized the APC-led administration for failing to tackle critical issues such as hunger, insecurity, and the unjust treatment of citizens. He urged the government to rethink its approach and make necessary reforms.

“The current state of hunger, insecurity, and arbitrary actions against Nigerians is unacceptable and demands urgent correction,” he remarked.

He emphasized the PDP’s dedication to democratic values and people-centered policies, insisting that the party stands apart as the only political organization in Nigeria capable of enduring challenging times.

“We live in a democracy where the people’s voices matter. We are not defeated; we are law-abiding citizens who deserve to be heard,” Damagum added.

Calling on PDP members to act as proud representatives of the party’s legacy, he acknowledged that while some might be tempted to leave, he was confident they would return.

“To those thinking of leaving, I urge you to reconsider. There is no party more inclusive than ours. But if they do depart, we wish them well and expect their return,” he said.

Damagum reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to leading Nigeria toward a brighter future. The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is set to meet from July 23 to 25 to further develop strategies for the 2027 elections.
