2027 Presidency Should Be Zoned to the South, Wike Urges PDP Leaders

Nyesom Wike, the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, has called on key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone the party’s presidential candidacy to the southern region for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Monday, Wike addressed the “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP” during a critical meeting, emphasizing the importance of fairness, inclusivity, and adherence to the party’s constitutional principles. He stressed that after years of northern leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari, it is time for the PDP to make a clear commitment to a southern presidential candidate.
The official communiqué read, “In the interest of equity, federal character, and respect for our party’s constitution, the PDP must unequivocally declare that the 2027 presidential ticket will come from the South.”
On the internal party structure, Wike’s group reaffirmed their support for Senator Sam Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary, reiterating that only he has the authority to issue official notices for key party meetings and correspondences, including those addressed to INEC. Any notices not authorized by him are considered invalid.
The stakeholders also urged the party to respect the recent Supreme Court ruling, which confirmed Senator Anyanwu’s position, warning that failure to do so could lead to further internal decay. “To halt the party’s decline and preserve its greatness, immediate respect for the Supreme Court’s judgment and affirmation of Senator Sam Anyanwu as the substantive National Secretary is essential,” the communiqué concluded.
