5 Killed, 13 Injured in Early Morning Road Crash in Langtang North, Plateau

Tragedy struck early Sunday morning in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, as a road accident claimed the lives of five people and left 13 others injured. The crash occurred around 3 a.m. at Zangzat Roundabout and involved a trailer transporting traders from Shendam to Jos, the state capital.
The Chairman of Langtang North LGA, Pirfa Tyem, confirmed the incident through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Precious Yakubu. According to preliminary findings, the accident involved a Plateau State-registered vehicle (JJN 383 YZ) and was reportedly caused by overspeeding and overloading.
Chairman Tyem said a local government team immediately visited the crash site and the hospital to support victims, assess their needs, and offer condolences to bereaved families. He urged road users—including drivers, transporters, and passengers—to prioritise safety, observe speed limits, and avoid overloading. He also called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to strengthen enforcement and public awareness campaigns on road safety.
The LGA chairman expressed sympathy to the families affected and wished the injured a quick recovery. He also reiterated the council’s commitment to working with relevant agencies to ensure safer roads in the area. The Langtang accident comes just days after a fuel tanker crash near St. Louis College in Jos killed two and injured 16, bringing the total number of fatalities from road crashes in Plateau State over the past two weeks to 25.
