Helen Williams, a Nigerian woman, has achieved an extraordinary milestone by securing a Guinness World Record for the “widest wig.”
As reported by the Guinness World Records on Monday, Williams crafted a hairpiece spanning 3.65 meters (11 feet 11 inches) in width, equivalent to the length of a Mini Cooper car, which measures 3.63 meters (11 feet 10 inches).
Guinness World Records noted that Williams dedicated over a month to create her record-setting wig, utilizing more than 800 bundles of auburn hair. The project cost approximately N4,138,200 ($2,719 or £2,150).
At 31 years old, Williams handcrafted most of the wig, though she employed a sewing machine for certain sections.
Expressing her pride in her accomplishment, Williams, who also holds the record for most hair clips inserted into a wig in 30 seconds with 90 clips, said, “I am very proud of myself. I now hold three records.”
“As a professional wig maker, I look forward to breaking many more records in the wig category. I enjoy tackling challenging tasks; they make me a better person and help me learn new things,” she added.
Williams mentioned that her inspiration came from actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore, a former record holder. “I am a big fan of Drew Barrymore. She also inspired me,” she said.
In addition to her latest achievement, Williams holds records for inserting 90 hair clips into a wig in 30 seconds and for creating the longest handmade wig.
