Edo Labour Party Suspends National Chairman Julius Abure

The Labour Party in Edo State has suspended its national chairman, Julius Abure, following the ratification of his suspension by the party’s state executive. This decision stems from Abure’s suspension from Arue, Ward 3, Esan North-East Local Government Area, as communicated in a letter dated May 14, 2024, addressed to Abure.

During a press conference held in Benin City on Friday night, which was attended by state and local government leaders and other party members, Patrick Onogbenin, the Chairman of LP Esan North-East LG, announced that he received a letter from Ward 3 Chairman, Thompson Ehiguese, detailing Abure’s suspension from the ward. Onogbenin discussed the issues raised in the letter with the local government executive members, and they concluded that the suspension was justified. They then forwarded the matter to the state executive for ratification.

Kelly Ogbaloi, the state chairman of the Labour Party, stated that after reviewing the letters and the reasons provided for the suspension, the state executive had no choice but to ratify the decision, which had already been upheld at the local government level.

“The state executive council is extremely reluctant to adopt this kind of measure, but we are constrained and have no options to refuse this presentation. Given that it comes from the very ward where Julius Abure originates, we found no reason to reject the suspension,” Ogbaloi explained.

“On behalf of the state executive committee, we hereby ratify the suspension. Please note that you have been suspended from the membership of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government, Edo State. This decision follows rigorous deliberation by ward members considering your high-handedness, anti-party activities, and various allegations of fraud currently under investigation.”
