Court Bars Pro-Wike Lawmakers from Rivers State Assembly

 

A court has issued an order barring pro-Wike lawmakers from participating in the Rivers State House of Assembly. The order includes the following provisions:

 

1. An interlocutory injunction restrains the first to twenty-fifth defendants from presenting themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. They are prohibited from meeting or conducting legislative business at the House of Assembly Auditorium on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, or any other location, as their seats have been declared vacant pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

2. Another interlocutory injunction restrains the twenty-sixth to twenty-eighth defendants from interacting with or accepting any resolutions or bills from the first to twenty-fifth defendants, who have been declared vacant from their legislative seats effective December 13, 2023, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

 

3. The case has been adjourned until July 1, 2024, for mention.
