BREAKING: Two-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos Island, Many Residents Trapped

A two-storey building in the Isale Eko area of Lagos Island collapsed on Thursday, following a fire that affected parts of Dosunmu Market. Scores of residents are currently trapped under the rubble.

Images obtained by SaharaReporters reveal the extensive damage, with many occupants yet to be rescued. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident and noted that 14 other buildings were significantly affected by the fire.

This follows an earlier incident in April, reported by SaharaReporters, where a fire outbreak in the same market impacted at least four buildings.

In related news, FIRST CLASS GISTS reported a tragic event in the Papa Ajao area of Mushin, Lagos State, where a mosque collapsed on Sunday during Zuhr prayer, resulting in the recovery of three bodies, including an 11-year-old girl. The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, initially reported that only the girl’s body had been found and that injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals.

Later, Dr. Femi Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that three bodies were recovered from the collapsed mosque and that the affected buildings had been reduced to ground level.
