Man Found Dead Inside Transformer in Benue: Suicide or Vandalism?
On Thursday, a man identified as Terhide Garfa was found dead inside a transformer in Kanshio, a suburb of Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. The incident has raised questions about whether it was a suicide or an act of vandalism.
An eyewitness named Nick reported discovering the body around 3:45 pm. Nick, a local resident, expressed confusion about how Garfa managed to enter the fenced transformer area.
“Someone mentioned hearing him say he needed to talk to his mother or he would end his life,” Nick recounted. “But it’s unclear if he ever got to speak to her. The next thing we knew, his body was found near the transformer.”
Adakole Elijah, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), called the event peculiar, noting that the transformer was securely fenced. He remarked, “It’s perplexing how someone could have gained access to that area. We are uncertain if this was a suicide or an attempted act of vandalism. The evidence suggests he forced his way in. JED consistently warns against approaching our installations.”
Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to Garfa’s death.
