AAC Presidential Flag bearer, Sowore Rejects Support from ‘Obidient’ Movement, Criticizes Peter Obi’s Followers
When questioned about any resentment towards Peter Obi’s popularity on social media, Omoyele Sowore responded, “This narrative is misleading. If you have something to say, just say it. I have no connection with Peter Obi and do not seek his supporters.”
Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress, has made it clear that he does not desire the support of the ‘Obidient’ Movement, followers of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate. In an interview with Pulse Nigeria, the #RevolutionNow leader stated he opposes the way ‘Obidients’ suppress and oppress others.
Sowore emphasized that he does not want supporters who would blindly follow him or misrepresent him to the public. “If I were to have supporters to help me win and govern this country, I would want them to challenge me and represent me truthfully. I don’t want supporters who suppress and oppress people like the current regime. I don’t want supporters who would arrest people for expressing their opinions on social media. I do not wish to be associated with ‘Obidients’.”
Sowore further expressed his disdain for the term ‘Obidient’, criticizing the idea of forming an organization based on obedience during oppressive times. He likened it to relinquishing one’s autonomy and common sense to irrationality.
Clarifying that he holds no grudge against Obi, Sowore recounted his past support for the Labour Party. He revealed that during a legal battle to reclaim his party, he shared a crucial court judgment with Femi Falana, which helped Obi remain a candidate for the 2023 election. Without this support, Sowore claimed, Obi would not have been able to run.
Sowore also recalled his earlier support for Obi during his tenure as Anambra State governor, using Sahara Reporters to expose plans against Obi, enabling him to serve for eight years. Initially, Sowore believed in Obi’s authenticity but later came to view him as a fraud.
