Breaking: Three Dead as Illegal Mining Pit Collapses in Niger
A mining pit collapse in the Adunu community, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, has resulted in three fatalities. The site, known for attracting women and children, is an illegal mining operation.
Abdullahi Baba’arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the deaths and the rescue of one individual. According to Baba’arah, community efforts were instrumental in recovering all those trapped in the pit.
Earlier reports indicated that the pit collapsed around 10 AM, trapping an undetermined number of workers. Yusuf Shuaibu, Chairman of the Miners Association of Nigeria, told Channels Television that the association had dispatched a team for an on-site assessment, with support from the Niger State government.
