Cholera Outbreak in Ogun: See Numbers of People that Died, Hospitalized

Cholera Patient

Ogun State has reported its first cholera outbreak, resulting in the death of a 62-year-old woman in the Ijebu-Igbo area.

The outbreak, which occurred three days ago, has also led to the hospitalization of five other individuals.

The deceased reportedly contracted the disease from her son, who is now among those hospitalized.

Dr. Tomi Coker, the state Commissioner for Health, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

Coker noted that 14 cases of cholera had been reported across four local government areas: Ota, Abeokuta South, Obafemi Owode, and Ijebu North. She also confirmed that five other individuals are currently hospitalized.

“A 62-year-old woman died in Ijebu-Igbo after contracting cholera from her sick son. Five others are hospitalized across the local government areas of Ota, Abeokuta South, Obafemi Owode, and Ijebu North. Since last week, we have recorded 14 cases and one fatality,” Coker said.

She urged residents to maintain good hygiene practices and avoid drinking water from unreliable sources.

“I urge the people of Ogun to stay calm and vigilant for cholera symptoms. Any suspected cases should be reported to our disease surveillance team,” Coker advised.
