A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer was injured on Friday by a speeding driver along the Osogbo/Gbongan Road, near the Osun Government Secretariat in Abere.
The driver, reportedly in a Lexus Jeep, ignored signals to stop at a roadblock near the Osun Sector Headquarters. Instead, he hit the FRSC officer and dragged him along the road before the officer fell off the vehicle.
Eyewitnesses Fatai and Ramota Olagunju, roadside traders near the secretariat, recounted the incident, stating that the driver did not stop after hitting the officer but sped off towards Akoda Junction.
Fatai described the incident: “It happened between 9 and 9:30 am. The driver was coming from Osogbo and was flagged down by road safety officers. Instead of stopping, he hit one of the officers and dragged him along the road before speeding off towards Akoda Junction. The officer eventually fell off the vehicle, badly injured. His colleagues immediately pursued the driver, but I don’t know if they caught him.”
FRSC Osun Sector Commander, Inyang Umoh, confirmed the incident, stating that the injured officer is in stable condition. “The officer is in stable condition. We are making efforts to apprehend the driver, who has not yet been arrested,” Umoh told City Round.
