The local leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), headed by Rt. Hon. Allwell Asiforo, expressed shock and sorrow over the incident. Asiforo called on Governor Otti to overhaul the state’s security framework.

 

The officers, who were stationed at Azuka Police Station near Ikot Ekpene Road, were ambushed and killed at Opobo Junction on the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Expressway during a routine stop-and-search operation. Two other officers were critically injured and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

 

Governor Otti, during his visit to the families of the deceased and injured officers, vowed that the state government would provide ongoing support for their families. He expressed condolences to the families, the police authorities, the State Commissioner of Police, and the Inspector General of Police.

 

“This is a time to reassure the security agencies that the state stands firmly behind them,” Governor Otti stated. “We also want to assure Abia citizens that the state is fully prepared to address this issue and will ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

 

He stressed the importance of maintaining public confidence and urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear. The governor assured that the government would intensify security efforts to prevent such incidents in the future.

 

When questioned about potential suspects, Governor Otti noted that it was reasonable to consider that the state’s adversaries might be involved. He emphasized that thorough investigations and intelligence gathering would ultimately reveal the perpetrators.

 

Accompanying Governor Otti during his visit were the State Commissioner of Police, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba PhD, the Mayor of Aba North, Ide John Udeagbala, the Mayor of Aba South, Hon. Uche Nwaogu, SSA to the Governor on Transport, Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, and other gover

nment officials.
