EFCC Cautions Against Planned Protest

EFCC Cautions Against Planned Protest

EFCC Press Release

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is alerting the public about a planned protest organized by a shadowy group targeting the Commission.

Recently, this group has been actively using social media to rally impressionable young Nigerians, including students, to oppose the EFCC. They are framing their campaign as a resistance to the Commission’s efforts to enforce cybercrime laws.

The EFCC is not opposed to citizens’ right to protest but is concerned about evidence suggesting that corrupt individuals under investigation or prosecution are attempting to exploit the protest to incite a national uprising, which could threaten the country’s peace and security.

As a responsible law enforcement agency, the EFCC will not allow any disruption of law and order, particularly around its offices nationwide. In collaboration with other security agencies, the EFCC is taking necessary steps to counter any potential threats to Nigeria’s peace and security.

The Commission urges parents, guardians, and heads of educational institutions to ensure their wards are not manipulated into participating in this proxy war against the EFCC by corrupt interests. The Commission’s efforts against corruption and cybercrime aim to safeguard the future of Nigerian youth, which is at risk if the country’s global reputation deteriorates further as a haven for fraudsters.
