See The Numbers of drug suspects arrested as NDLEA destroys 14 cannabis farms in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), led by Mr. Callys Alumona, announced the arrest of 220 individuals for drug-related offenses from February to June 2024.

In this period, the agency also eradicated 14 cannabis farms spanning 18.5 hectares and weighing approximately 46,251.433kg.

During the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Alumona reported that of the 220 suspects, 148 were men and 72 were women.

“Four major drug traffickers have been monitored; two have been apprehended and prosecuted, while the other two are still under surveillance,” he noted.

He also revealed that the agency seized a total of 1,676,994 kilograms of hard drugs, which included 3,558 bottles (3,558 litres) of codeine-based syrup.

Additionally, as part of the agency’s rehabilitation and counseling efforts, 154 suspected drug addicts received counseling, with eight undergoing residential treatment.
