Military Uncovers Terrorist Plot to Attack Critical Infrastructure
The Defence Headquarters has revealed intelligence indicating that Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists are planning attacks on critical national infrastructure.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this information during a briefing on Thursday. He assured that the military has implemented measures to prevent these planned attacks.
“We are aware of some of the plans to target critical infrastructure in the country. Accordingly, we have emplaced measures to forestall such plans,” stated Maj.-Gen. Buba. He added that security agencies responsible for protecting these infrastructures have been alerted and some plots have already been thwarted.
Maj.-Gen. Buba urged citizens to support the military by providing valuable information to help identify terrorist collaborators within communities. “These terrorists are the enemy that must be fought and defeated. They are responsible for keeping the nation in an almost constant state of counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency,” he said.
He emphasized the need for unwavering security measures, noting that the terrorists are relentless in their efforts to harm citizens. “In this fight, citizens must understand that we must never compromise on security, otherwise everyone’s security will be compromised,” Buba stressed.
Highlighting the military’s ongoing efforts, Buba stated, “We are forcing the terrorists to pay a price for every act of aggression against the citizens. Our strategy includes this approach to win the war. We must fight for the safety and security of our citizens and safeguard our nation.”
He concluded by affirming the military’s commitment: “We will defeat the terrorists on the battlefield and help our nation flourish again.”
