The Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has prosecuted approximately 300 individuals for various traffic violations through its mobile court system, the command disclosed on Thursday.

Assistant Corps Commander Ayoola Salauden, the FRSC Ondo Unit Commander, made the announcement during a mobile court session held in Ondo town. This session saw the prosecution of several traffic offenders.

Salauden highlighted that the mobile court initiative is part of the FRSC’s efforts to reduce the high incidence of road crashes on the Ondo-Ore Expressway and across Nigeria. “Reducing road traffic crashes and injuries is a shared responsibility,” he stated. “This is our second session this year. We prosecuted 150 offenders in the last session and aim to prosecute another 150 today (Thursday) to minimize accidents on the Ondo-Ore Road and throughout Ondo State.”

Salauden emphasized the effectiveness of the mobile court as a strategy to enforce traffic laws and reduce road crashes. “The mobile court is a high-standard enforcement method for traffic violations, which is why we are here today,” he added.

Joseph Ajayi, Head of Operations for the sector command, also spoke on the success of the mobile court system, citing the number of offenders arrested and prosecuted. “Today’s program is successful, considering the nature of the offenses, which include overloading and failure to install speed limit devices,” Ajayi explained. “Recent accidents have often been due to speeding, especially involving commercial vehicles that lack speed limiters and are overloaded. Our focus is on these violations to enhance road safety.”

The offenses targeted during the session included overloading and the failure to install speed limit devices, both of which are significant contributors to road accidents.
