Ben Kalu: Tinubu Has Given Ndigbo More Than Their Votes

Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has stated that President Bola Tinubu has done more for the South-East than the number of votes he received from the region during the 2023 election.
Speaking at the APC South-East zonal meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Kalu urged the people of the region to support Tinubu’s administration in addressing perceived marginalization.
During the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu secured 2,187,599 votes in the South-East, the lowest among the six geopolitical zones. In contrast, he received 4,350,987 votes in the South-West, 2,745,707 in the South-South, 3,116,472 in the North-East, 4,261,784 in the North-Central, and 6,468,492 in the North-West.
“President Bola Tinubu has given Ndigbo more than the votes cast for him during the elections,” Kalu emphasized. He added, “It is now up to us to reciprocate his good works because gratitude begets more blessings.”
Kalu highlighted that the South-East Development Commission Bill, which aims to tackle various challenges in the region, has been finalized and is awaiting the president’s assent. He assured that the National Assembly, under APC leadership, will continue to leverage legislative interventions to reposition the South-East and the nation at large.
“To this end, efforts are underway to create an additional state in the South-East. The call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu is also gaining traction as a key step towards resolving security challenges in our zone.”
Kalu expressed gratitude to governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and other stakeholders for their efforts in supporting this cause. He urged continuous dedication until their goals are achieved.
Kalu also noted that Tinubu has appointed several prominent individuals from the South-East, reflecting the party’s commitment to inclusivity. “Given all the remarkable achievements of the president and our great party in the past year, I urge the South-East region to remain steadfast and not heed calls to revolt against a president who has done so much for our country. We must stand united in support of his visionary leadership,” he concluded.
