Troops Capture Two Bandits in Taraba Following Intense Shootout, Rescue 9-Year-Old Girl

In a decisive operation, troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) apprehended two notorious terrorists after a fierce shootout at Geshi Village along Rafin Kada road in Damisa Ward of Donga Local Government Area, Taraba State.

Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, announced on Sunday, July 14, 2024, that the troops also rescued a 9-year-old girl, Miss Dorothy Kwatsumen, who was found wandering in her school uniform in Yorro LGA of the state.

The operation, which took place on July 11, 2024, led to the recovery of two motorcycles used by the criminals. “Following intelligence reports of an imminent attack in Geshi Village by armed terrorists, troops deployed in Akate in Donga swiftly mobilized to the area and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle,” the statement read.

The troops overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower, causing the criminals to flee into the bush with gunshot wounds. Continuing their pursuit, the troops arrested two terrorists and seized their motorcycles. The captured terrorists are currently in custody for interrogation.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS praised the troops for their bravery, swift response, and dedication to duty. “This operation underscores our commitment to eradicating kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities in Taraba State. The Brigade will continue to intensify efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” he stated.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, assuring that the 6 Brigade is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Taraba State.

In a separate incident, troops from Headquarters 6 Brigade, while on routine patrol within the Jalingo metropolis, found a 9-year-old girl named Miss Dorothy Kwatsumen wandering in her school uniform in the Gongomaliki area of Yorro LGA.

Preliminary investigations to identify her school and locate her parents or guardians were initially unsuccessful. Consequently, she was taken to the Brigade headquarters for custody until her parents were found. It was later discovered that she is a pupil of Glory Children Academy. The troops contacted the school’s headteacher, who confirmed that they had been searching for her for about 24 hours and had reported her disappearance to the Jalingo Police Division.
