Dangote Refinery: Nigeria Kills Its Own Enterprises– Aisha Yesufu

Renowned social and political critic, Aisha Yesufu, has criticized Nigeria for sabotaging its own ventures.

Yesufu urged collective effort to ensure the success of the Dangote Refinery, stressing that it must not be allowed to fail.

Her remarks follow the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s (NMDPRA) announcement that the Dangote Refinery has not yet received the necessary license to commence operations.

Farouk Ahmed, the CEO of NMDPRA, made this revelation during a press briefing at the State House in Abuja on Thursday. Ahmed stated that the refinery is still in the pre-commissioning phase and has not been granted a license due to concerns about the quality of its petroleum products.

Ahmed claimed that the quality of the refinery’s output is inferior to imported products. He said, “So, in terms of quality, currently, the AGO quality in terms of sulfur is the lowest as far as a West African requirement of 50 ppm.”

In response to a call by an X user, @Oluseun Onigbinde, for the regulator to be sanctioned over these claims, Yesufu called on Nigerians to speak out. She remarked that Dangote is now experiencing the challenges faced by Nigerian entrepreneurs without government connections.

Yesufu stated, “Nigeria sabotages its own. I completely agree with you; the refinery must not fail. Everyone must work together to ensure its success.

“Alhaji Dangote @AlikoDangote is now experiencing what Nigerian entrepreneurs without government ties have always faced: the destruction of dreams and businesses. Just yesterday, LandMark suffered a similar fate, and there was silence from the business community.

“When you speak out against injustices affecting others, it helps to prevent such wrongs from reaching you.”
