Ogun Assembly react to incessant arrests of innocent residents by Lagos police

The Ogun State House of Assembly has expressed concern over the frequent arrests of innocent residents by the Lagos State police. These incidents, involving officers from the Zone 2 Command Headquarters and the FCIID, Alagbon, are linked to land grabbing and illegal chieftaincy claims within Ogun State.

Speaker Oludaisi Elemide condemned these actions in response to statements made by Ipokia/Idiroko representative Adebisi Oyedele and Yewa North 1 representative Adeyanju Adegoke during a plenary session at the Assembly complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Elemide highlighted that some of these security operations, conducted beyond their jurisdiction, are driven by individuals with vested interests, which jeopardizes the safety and property of Ogun residents.

Referencing Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun’s zero-tolerance policy towards land grabbing and other criminal activities, Elemide emphasized the governor’s commitment to eradicating crime from the state.

He urged the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner of Police, and the Commander of the Amotekun Corps to enhance security measures to address these issues. Additionally, he called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene, stressing that the presence of the Ogun police command should prevent unwarranted interference from Lagos State authorities. The Speaker affirmed that Ogun State would not relinquish its sovereignty to external forces.
