APC Accuses Failed Politicians of Orchestrating Anti-Tinubu Protests

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Nigerians about the proposed protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, attributing them to unsuccessful politicians. Chief Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Chairman of the APC in Rivers State, made this statement on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Okocha emphasized, “As a party in Rivers State and patriotic citizens of Nigeria, we urge caution against the planned protest by what I call failed politicians. They cannot dismantle the APC or the presidency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We should support the president, who is committed to advancing Nigeria. This process will take time, but progress is being made.”
He further argued that comparing Nigeria to countries like Kenya or Sudan is misguided, given the different circumstances and population sizes. “Encouraging protests will only result in chaos. We advise Nigerians not to support these failed politicians who believe they can disrupt the APC or the president,” he said.
Okocha also addressed the grievances behind the planned protest, particularly the issue of hunger in the country. He questioned, “Is President Tinubu the cause of hunger in Nigeria? Why are we not protesting against our governors? When I served as the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, we had allocations of N6.6 billion monthly. Now, Rivers State receives over N28 billion from federal allocations. What changed? The removal of fuel subsidies has brought more funds into the system, which the president has distributed fairly. Should the president also manage how states use these funds?”
He blamed the protests on failed politicians who gained power through dubious means, urging them to wait until 2027 and stay away from the APC.
“The intention behind these protests is sinister. The presidential spokesperson has discussed this matter, and we see patriotic Nigerians speaking out every day. But what will these protests achieve? Confrontation with security agencies or counter-protests supporting the president? This cannot solve our problems. A great leader achieves victory with minimal damage, unlike what we see in Kenya and Sudan. Such protests would devastate Nigeria,” Okocha added.
Regarding the APC’s activities in Rivers State, Okocha highlighted the party’s improved performance compared to the past, when it operated like a social club. He also expressed full support for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, emphasizing the APC’s inclusive approach.
