FCT Not Available for Protests – Wike

August 1st Reserved for Traditional Institutions’ Celebrations

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has declared that anti-government protests will not be permitted in the FCT.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, July 24, 2024, following a meeting of the FCT Security Council attended by security agency heads and the six Area Council Chairmen, Wike issued the warning.
While acknowledging the legal right of FCT residents to protest, Wike pointed out that the planned anti-government protest on August 1, 2024, conflicts with the scheduled presentation of certificates of recognition to traditional rulers across all Area Councils of the FCT.
