Presidency Reveal How Cabals are Behind the Nationwide Protest

Asefon Dayo

The Presidency has alleged that behind the upcoming nationwide protest are influential groups and individuals opposed to President Bola Tinubu’s progressive policies and youth-focused administration. This claim was made by Sunday Asefon, Special Adviser to the President on Student Engagement, during a town hall meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

The meeting, organized by Mr. Osahon Okunbo, Chairman of Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments, addressed concerns about the planned demonstration. Asefon suggested that these groups are unsettled by the advancements made under President Tinubu’s leadership, particularly the inclusion of younger individuals in government and innovative policies.

“They are accustomed to a system where appointments are based on age, but President Tinubu is changing that by bringing in young talent and implementing policies that do not align with their interests,” Asefon explained.

Highlighting the administration’s accomplishments, Asefon praised Tinubu’s efforts, particularly in the education sector, noting, “No other president has achieved as much in just one year as President Tinubu has.” He cited significant achievements such as the introduction of student loans, the resolution of longstanding disputes between the federal government and lecturers, and other youth-oriented policies.

Asefon admitted to difficulties in effectively communicating these achievements, especially to student communities. “I have not been able to visit campuses to share the president’s accomplishments, but I am confident this is the Nigeria many of us have envisioned,” he said.

Lucky Emonefe, President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), urged patience with the current administration and expressed concerns that the protest could be hijacked, leading to potential chaos. He advised the president to address the concerns of Nigerian students directly.

The gathering also saw other stakeholders, political leaders, and civil society organizations advocating for dialogue over protest, encouraging a collaborative approach to resolving issues.
