Bauchi Governor Imposes 24-Hour Curfew as Protesters Set Vehicles and Secretariat On Fire

In response to escalating violence during the #EndBadGovernance protests, the Bauchi State Government has instituted a 24-hour curfew in Katagum Local Government Area. 

 

On Monday, protesters torched sections of the local government secretariat, destroyed vehicles, and vandalized the residence of former Deputy Governor Baba Tela, looting properties in the process. The unrest affected several streets in Azare town within Katagum LGA.

 

Governor Bala Mohammed, alarmed by the extensive damage to both government and private properties, has enforced the curfew to prevent further escalation. The decision was communicated through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Kashim.

 

The statement noted, “In light of the worsening situation in Azare and surrounding areas, which has resulted in the destruction of public property, theft, and general disorder, His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, has mandated a 24-hour curfew in Katagum Local Government Area to manage the crisis.”

 

Additionally, the governor has instructed security agencies to address the unrest and apprehend those responsible, urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement during th
