Nigerian Army Detains Officer After Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old Protester in Kaduna

The Nigerian Army has announced the detention of a soldier who fatally shot a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed, during the ongoing EndBadGovernance protest in Kaduna State.
According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, the incident occurred on Tuesday when Nigerian Army troops intervened in the Samaru community in Zaria to disperse demonstrators. The soldiers were enforcing a curfew imposed by the Kaduna State Government.
In a statement released Tuesday night, Army spokesperson Onyema Nwachukwu confirmed the arrest of the officer involved. The statement detailed that on August 6, 2024, the troops responded to reports of a large group of individuals in Samaru burning tires and throwing stones at security personnel.
Upon arrival, the soldiers encountered hostile actions from the protesters, leading one soldier to fire a warning shot. Tragically, this shot resulted in the death of Ismail Mohammed. The officer responsible for the shooting has been detained and is currently under investigation.
