ABUJA – On Monday, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) announced the cancellation of certificates for 101 individuals who were improperly mobilized for national service by the University of Calabar (UNICAL) during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years. This decisive action is part of a broader effort to combat certificate fraud and uphold the integrity of the national service program.
Eddy Megwa, NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, stated that this measure was taken to ensure that only qualified individuals participate in the national service. The certificates of the affected individuals were revoked immediately upon discovery of the fraudulent mobilization.
The NYSC emphasized its commitment to maintaining high standards within the service program and warned that it will continue to act against any institutions or individuals involved in such fraudulent activities. The public, including Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), corporate and religious organizations, multinational companies, and Corps Producing Institutions, are urged to verify the authenticity of certificates they receive.
For verification purposes, individuals are encouraged to contact the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja. Megwa reaffirmed the NYSC’s dedication to ensuring that only genuinely qualified individuals are issued Certificates of National Service and warned that those from unaccredited institutions or otherwise unqualified will not be recognized.
