How Soldier was Arrested for Killing and Burying Borno Keke Rider

The Borno State Police Command has apprehended three individuals, including a former soldier, in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old keke rider named James Luka.

The incident occurred in the Maiduguri Metropolis. According to ASP Nahum Daso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the suspects were arrested following a police operation in Maiduguri. The suspects, now in custody, have been charged with culpable homicide.

Daso explained that on August 5, the suspects hired James Luka, a keke rider, from the Dubai Area to Shagari Locus. They lured him to a secluded spot behind Shagari Locus, where they fatally stabbed him. The victim’s body was then buried in a shallow grave.

Following a thorough investigation, the police, in cooperation with other agencies, located and exhumed Luka’s body on August 6. It was subsequently returned to his family for a proper burial. Daso urged the public, especially keke riders, to exercise caution and avoid isolated areas when transporting passengers.

One of the arrested suspects, Simon Buba, revealed to FIRST CLASS GISTS that he is a former soldier who was discharged from the Nigerian Army in February 2024 for “absence without official leave.” Buba, originally from Damboa Local Government Area in Borno State, admitted that he and his accomplices intended to sell the keke for N1.3 million. However, their plan was thwarted when the buyer demanded a receipt. They were apprehended by the police while attempting to refuel the keke at a petrol station.
