Reasons 700 Sokoto Residents Receive Family Planning Kits

DKT Nigeria, in partnership with the Sokoto State Ministry of Health, recently conducted a community outreach program to promote family planning. The two-day event aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of contraceptive methods and reproductive health services.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, over 700 men and women participated in the outreach, held at Maryam Abacha Hospital and Offa Road. The initiative, which honored the legacy of DKT International Founder Phil Harvey, provided access to various family planning products, including IUDs, implants, and condoms. The program also featured comprehensive health talks and vital checks conducted by experienced nurses.

The outreach focused on educating the community about the importance of family planning, child spacing, and their positive effects on maternal health and overall family well-being. The event saw participation from prominent local figures, including Sarkin Yaki Gagi (Malami Marafa), who spoke on the benefits of family planning for women.

Other notable attendees from the Sokoto Ministry of Health included Dr. Tukur Garba, Director of the Primary Healthcare Board, Reproductive Health Coordinator Shafaatu Bello, Family Planning Coordinator, and Salamatu Muhammed, State Team Lead for Monitoring and Evaluation.

The involvement of local leaders and healthcare professionals underscored the state’s commitment to improving contraceptive health and family planning. This outreach reflects the community’s readiness to adopt family planning practices and enhance overall reproductive health.

A recent report by FIRST CLASS GISTS highlighted that economic challenges are increasingly driving women to adopt birth control measures. The rising cost of living has led many to seek ways to limit family size, which has resulted in a rise in multiple abortions among married couples aiming to manage their expenses.
