See the Number of Person that Died as 17 was Injured in Ibadan Multiple Vehicle Crash

On Tuesday, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) confirmed that 16 people lost their lives and 17 others were injured in a severe multi-vehicle collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Agbowo area.

According to the FRSC, the accident involved 35 individuals. Of these, 16 died at the scene, while the injured are currently receiving treatment at Hamdalat Hospital in Agbowo, Ibadan North Local Government Area.

The crash occurred near the Agbowo/Ajao area and involved a truck carrying roofing sheets (license plate AKM 548 ZY), an 18-seater passenger bus (MUB 20LG), a Micra taxi (BDJ 520YC), and a Honda CR-V SUV (KRD 707 ER). Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, which was laden with roofing materials, collided with the other vehicles. The incident is believed to have been caused by brake failure, compounded by ongoing road construction that has reduced the highway to a single lane, exacerbating traffic congestion.

Witnesses also noted that the collision could have been avoided if the roadwork had progressed more rapidly. The restricted lanes made movement difficult, leading to a severe traffic jam. Calls have been made for the construction firm to open additional lanes to alleviate the congestion and improve safety on the highway.
