How Gunmen Kill Niger Farm Manager and Abduct Three

Gunmen have killed a farm manager and kidnapped three individuals in Niger State during separate attacks on two farms.

Reports indicate that the incidents occurred early Sunday morning on the outskirts of Sabon-Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area. The unnamed farm manager was fatally shot after he attempted to confront the armed assailants. The attackers struck at two different farmhouses, killing the manager at one site and abducting three farmhands at the other.

Hussaini Abubakar, head of the security vigilante in Tafa, confirmed the attack, stating that the gunmen initially kidnapped the three individuals and shot the farm manager as they were leaving the area. The attack occurred around 2 a.m., and no cattle were reported stolen during the raid. Abubakar noted that the assailants managed to escape before police or vigilante forces arrived, which was approximately 10 minutes after the attack.

Niger State Police Command spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun also verified the incident, stating that two people were abducted. Abiodun assured the public that police efforts are underway to rescue the victims. He detailed that on August 11, 2024, at about 1 a.m., armed men attacked a residence in Angwan-Aso near Sabon-Wuse. Although police responded promptly, the attackers had already fled with the victims. During the attack, a security guard at a nearby poultry farm was injured but later died at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hospital. The police continue to work on locating and rescuing the abducted individuals.
