Ejiofor: Reasons Nigeria’s Sovereignty is at Risk Following Presidential Jets Seizure

Ifeanyi Ejiofor

On Friday, lawyer and human rights advocate Ifeanyi Ejiofor warned that Nigeria’s sovereignty is under serious threat following the recent seizure of three Nigerian presidential jets in France.

Commenting on the situation, Ejiofor expressed concern over the country’s mounting debt issues and their potential impact on national sovereignty. He said, “It is clear that Nigeria’s sovereignty is in jeopardy, and the severity of this threat is not being adequately addressed by Nigerians.”

He elaborated on the incident of August 15, 2024, when three Nigerian presidential jets, which were undergoing maintenance in Paris, were temporarily seized due to a court order. Ejiofor criticized the event as “an international disgrace.”

He further highlighted the dangers posed by the Nigerian government’s increasing reliance on excessive borrowing, suggesting that the nation might soon face severe consequences if it continues on this path. “With the ongoing reckless borrowing, there is a real possibility that Nigeria’s assets and citizens could become entangled in foreign legal disputes,” Ejiofor warned.
