Heartland FC’s journey to Abakaliki for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-Season Tournament ended in tragedy when their vehicle was involved in a fatal accident, according to FIRST CLASS GISTSÂ
Reports confirm that Christian Obi, the team’s Head Coach, has died from injuries sustained in the crash. The accident occurred near Umunna, close to Okigwe in Imo State, when the vehicle swerved to avoid an oncoming car and collided with another vehicle that was improperly parked following a previous accident.
While the official statement from the club mentioned that no fatalities were recorded, it acknowledged that some players and staff were injured and have been hospitalized. However, the statement did not initially report the coach’s death, which was later confirmed after he was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
